The Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) announces that two public calls are scheduled to open on Friday, 7 March 2025:

1. Call for the Selection of Cultural Projects in the Field of Translation into Foreign Languages for 2025 (JR5–P–2025);
2. Call for Proposals for Funding Cultural Projects to Co-Finance the Printing Costs of Translations of Original Slovene Works into Foreign Languages for 2025 (JR5–TRUBAR–2025)

The calls will remain open until 14 April 2025.

1. Public Call for the Selection of Cultural Projects in the Field of Translation into Foreign Languages for 2025 (JR4–P–2025)

The objective of the public call JR4-P-2025 is to select contractors and subsidize their cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages in 2025.

The goal and purpose of the public call is support the first translation of works originally written in Slovene into foreign languages. JAK will also co-finance the translation of works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovene cultural environment into foreign languages.

Eligible texts include adult fiction, children’s and young adult fiction, essayistic and critical works from the fields of culture and humanities, which are to be published in book form abroad or performed by a theatre company abroad. This call will subsidize translations that are set to be published no later than 31 August 2027.

Eligible applicants are legal entities (publishers, theatres) registered abroad who intend to ensure the publication or performance of the first translation of works originally written in the Slovene language or works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovene cultural environment.

Each applicant may submit no more than two (2) applications under this call.

2. Call for Proposals for Funding Cultural Projects to Co-Finance the Printing Costs of Translations of Original Slovene Works into Foreign Languages for 2025 (JR5–TRUBAR–2025)

The subject of the public call JR5–TRUBAR–2025 is the selection of contractors and co-financing the printing costs of translations in 2025.

Under this call, JAK will co-finance the printing costs of first editions in foreign languages of authors whose original works were created in Slovene, or works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment, in the fields of literature and the human sciences for adults, young adults, and children (including wordless picture books, graphic novels, and comics), as well as essays and critical works from the fields of culture and art which are to be published in book form abroad. Textbooks, scientific monographs, exhibition catalogues, cookbooks, and self-help manuals are specifically excluded from funding.

Eligible applicants are legal entities (publishers) registered abroad who intend to publish the first translation of a work originally written in the Slovene language, or works written in other languages when the author is part of the Slovenian cultural environment.

Each applicant may submit a maximum of three (3) applications within the framework of this call.
