The Week of Slovenian Literature in Vienna (4-10 November 2019)

Yesterday’s grand opening of the Exhibition of Slovenian Illustration in the main Viennese library Hauptbücherei am Gürtel and the concert by Slovenian author and storyteller Anja Štefan marked the start of the Week of Slovenian Literature in Vienna. The week will bring altogether ten events with seven Slovenian authors and a Slovenian stand at the Vienna Book Fair Buch Wien (6-10 November). You can meet us in hall 6, at stand B08.

Slovenian Book Agency to Host two International Meetings in November: semi-annual Traduki Meeting and Literaturhaus.net Meeting

11 to 13 November, Ljubljana

Literaturhaus.net network from the German-speaking area unites 14 literary houses from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Their meeting in Ljubljana is the first one outside these countries and they invited partners from Norway, Bulgaria and the UK, as well as Slovenia, to join and discuss new presentation possibilities of literary events. The Traduki meeting will take place in Ljubljana for the second time in the past ten years since both, the Traduki network and the Slovenian Book Agency, have been established. 40 members from both groups will meet, new plans will be made – should be exciting!

International Symposium “Art and its Institutions in the Fight against Populism”

6 and 7 November 2019, Modern Gallery, Ljubljana, auditorium

This November, Modern Gallery in Ljubljana, the Goethe Institute and the Slovenian Book Agency are organizing a symposium “Art and Its Institutions in the Fight against Populism”; it will be attended by museum directors, curators and other agents in the field of modern and contemporary art from all over the world. The Slovenian Book Agency initiated an idea for international symposium as one of its activities in the frame of preparations for the Slovenia-Guest of Honour role at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022. The event will thus be co-moderated by Holger Volland, vice-president of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Slovenian Book Agency at the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF)

The Slovenian Book Agency will attend the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF). A representative of the Slovenian Book Agency will attend the fair and take part in the SHVIP Book Pitch and the seventh edition of the CCBF Shanghai Visiting International Publishers Programme (SHVIP), which the organizers are preparing in cooperation with the Bologna Children's Book Fair. Every Story Matters – making books more inclusive

From November 1st, Slovenian Book Agency is a part of the project Every Story Matters – making books more inclusive, which is financially supported by the Creative Europe programme. The project will officially begin with the conference Every Story Matters and a partners' meeting of the organizations in Lisbon on November 18-19 2019. Various lecturers will present the practices of challenging stereotypes in the society and present their own specific projects.

Farewell Frankfurt Book Fair 2019 – it’s been exciting!

This year there were nine events with Slovenian authors in Frankfurt – from Drago Jančar with his brand-new German translation of And Love itself at das Blaue Sofa to sourdough bread-baking at Gourmet Gallery Show Kitchen with Anita Šumer – we've had everything covered!

Many thanks to all our program partners, organisations and individuals who met us at the fair and of course to the wonderful Frankfurt Book Fair team. This year was our last year in hall 5.0 – next year you can find the Slovene National Stand in hall 4.0!
