More than 20 events with Slovenian authors at this year's Leipzig Book Fair (15-18 March 2018)

The Leipzig Book Fair starts on Thursday, 15 March 2018. We kindly invite all interested literature aficionados to visit events with Slovenian authors at the fair and throughout the city of Leipzig as part of the "Leipzig liest" festival. You can find the Slovenian national stand at the Fair in Hall 4, D503 and fetch the program folder there or download the PDF (in German) here: Slowenien auf der Leipziger Buchmesse 2018.

Among the presented authors with recent book arrivals are Sebastijan Pregelj, Andrej Skubic, Alma M. Karlin’s (1889-1950) biography, Cvetka Lipuš, Anja Golob, Slavoj Žižek, Aleš Šteger and more.

One of the highlights will be the bestowal of the Fabjan Hafner Translation Award for the best translation from Slovenian into German, on Friday at 3 p.m. on the stage of the International Forum (Hall 4, C505). The award winner for 2018 is Johann Strutz for the translation of the novel by Florjan Lipuš, entitled Mirne duše (Seelenruhig, Jung&Jung Verlag, 2017).

Slovenian Book Agency is scheduled to issue two public tenders: Translations into foreign languages and Publications of Slovenian literature in German language.

Both public tenders are scheduled to be published on 30 March 2018 on Slovenian Book Agency website: <link en/>http://www.jakrs.si/en/</link>

The estimated value of the public tender for translations into foreign languages for this year is 100.000 EUR. The estimated value of the public tender for publications in German language is 60.000 EUR.

The Slovenian Book Agency would also like to point out the important novelty of this year's public tender for translations into foreign languages: the applicants must be legal entities (publishers) in the respective foreign countries, translators themselves will not be eligible applicants anymore.

The applicants for the public tender for Publications of Slovenian literature in German language have to be (as previously) legal entities in Austria, Germany or Switzerland.

CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence: Call for Applications 2018 (Deadline: 30 April)

CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence is awarded by the Central European Initiative (CEI) in co-operation with the Slovene Writers’ Association within the Vilenica International Literary Festival.

The CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence is an award aimed at encouraging cross-border cooperation and promotion in the field of literature. It is open to young writers from all genres under 35 years of age (born after 1983 - from 1 January 1984 onwards) from non-EU CEI countries (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine).

The fellowship is endowed with a cash award of EUR 5,000 for a three-month stay in any of the Central European Initiative Member States, selected by the candidate. During this period, the selected author will work on the literary project he or she proposed in his/her application. The fellowship winner will be also guest of the 33rd Vilenica International Literary Festival which will take place from 5 to 9 September 2018 at various locations in Slovenia.

The deadline for applications is 30 April 2018.
Applications must be sent by regular mail to the Slovene’s Writers Association.
