Boris Pahor in Berlin
The main reason behind the event is the publishing of Pahor's reprinted novel Nekropola (Nekropolis), the German translation of which was first published by the Berlin Verlag in 2001. Prior to the launch of the re-released book, it had been sold out for several years. The Berlin Verlag publishing house revealed that the new paperback issue will be accompanied by a restored hardcover edition (conatining a revised translation and a new foreword), due to be published in 2017 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the book's first unveiling in Slovene in 1957.
Boris Pahor will be interviewed by his long-time personal friend, esteemed German philologist Thomas Poiss - editor of the German translation of Nekropola (Nekropolis) and expert on the author's literary opus. The discussion will be followed by a short classical concert performed by Slovenian master musicians Brina Kafol Žust (flute), Marko Zupan (flute) and Vasja Legiša (cello). The acclaimed artists will introduce the audience to original sheet music by Boris Pahor's Triestian neighbour, revered Slovenian composer Pavle Merku.
The vestibule of the main hall will host an exhibition about the life and work of Boris Pahor. The exhibition was conceived in cooperation with the Cankarjeva založba publishing house since most of the displayed content was borrowed from Tako sem živel (This Is How I Lived), a monograph about the author's life edited by Tatjana Rojc.
The event is part of the preparatory activities prior to the project "Slovenia – Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair".
