Today we officially submitted the candidature file on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia as a candidate for the title of Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The decision was made based on an agreement with the administration of the Frankfurt Book Fair concluded last year. The Slovenian Book Agency commissioned experts from various fields to prepare the candidature file, which the Director of the Agency, Mr Aleš Novak, submitted to the Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Mr Jürgen Boos, on behalf of the Slovenian delegation. Her Excellency Mrs Marta Marko Kos, the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Germany, invited the heads of the fair for a visit to Slovenia. The official visit is scheduled to take place next year. The Agency has also conducted several other preparatory activities in order to secure a successful presentation. We have increased the funds for translations to German and English, organized two study visits for publishers and journalists, and hosted a programme workshop at the prestigious Stadt Land Buch Festival in Berlin in November, during which two special events had taken place - an event dedicated to the presentation of Slovenian authors and a meet-and-greet between Slovenian and German publishers.
