Slovenian Authors in the Focus of the Pula Book Fair

After a night of Slovenian visual art, (re)presented by Metka Krašovec, Alenka Sottler, Hana Stupica and Jure Eržen during the Pula Gallery Night (1 December 2016), the following days were reserved for Slovenian authors and Ljubljana bere – Ljubljana Reads.

The pinnacle of the opening ceremony on 3 December 2016 was a (masterful) performance by the legendary Laibach group. Their first point of order was the christening of the exhibition of illustrations and posters. The group rounded up the event with a themed concert titled Laibach Kunst Machine at the packed Sveta srca (Sacred Hearts) Gallery. Before the concert, the main representatives of the organizers of the regional programme, the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Mr Zoran Janković and Mr Darko Komšo, Head of the Archaeological Museum of Istria, addressed the audience.

Svetlana Slapšak and Boštjan Videmšek were also on hand. Together with photographer Jure Eržen and Svetlana Slapšak, Boštjan Videmšek participated in an interesting discussion titled Island-Ghetto-Asylum hosted by Aljoša Pužar and presented his most recent book Moderni eksodus (2005–2016): z begunci in migranti na poti proti obljubljenim deželam (On the Run: Modern Exodus; UMco, 2016). Goran Vojnović also ranks among Slovenian authors whose works are popular among the Croatian readership as many of his novels have, among many other languages, been translated into Croatian as well. This time around, his novel Figa (Fig) was in the focus of attention. The scrumptious, mouth-watering Slovenian culinary marvels that made the book fair even more delightful were served by Chef Klemen Košir, who astounded the Croatian public with sensational fish creations. He prepared an array of assorted specialities from his most recent cookbook titled PLAVA: knjiga o plavi ribi (in English: BLUE: Adriatic Blue Fish; self-publication, 2016).

A number of events are still scheduled to take place before the end of this year's edition of the Sa(n)jam knjige (Dreaming Books) festival. A detailed list can be found below:
