Authors and Illustrators

  • Brane Mozetič

    Brane Mozetič (b. 1958) is a Slovenian poet, writ- er, editor of the Aleph and Lambda book series and translator from French (Rimbaud, Genet, Foucault, etc.), best known as an author of homoerotic litera- ture. His oeuvre extends to 15 poetry collections, a book of short stories, three novels and six children’s picture books. He has edited four anthologies of LGBT literature and several presentations of con- temporary Slovenian literature. He has more than fifty books in translation, his poetry collection Ba- nalije (Banalities2003) alone being translated into twelve languages, making him one of the most translated contemporary Slovenian authors. He also organises translation workshops, readings of Slovenian authors abroad, a small literary and music festival Living Literature, the Ljubljana LGBT Film Festi- val, etc. His last translated book Unfinished Sketches of a Revolution, Talisman House, 2018, was a finalist for the Lambda Award for gay poetry.

  • Brane Senegačnik

    Brane is a poet, essayist, classical philologist, editor and translator. the main areas of his scientific research are Greek tragedy, the modern attitude towards ancient poetry and ontology of Poetry. His pub- lished works include six collec- tions of poetry, three books of essays on the spiritual aspects of contemporary Slovenian cul- ture, as well as several transla- tions from Greek, roman and renaissance literature. in 2012 he received the Sovre Prize for his translation of Seneca’s oedipus. in 2021 he received the Prešeren Fund award, the highest national recognition for artistic achievements.

  • Breda Podbrežnik Vukmir

    Breda Podbrežnik Vukmir started her career as a Slovenian language teacher and continued as a professor of the Slovene language. She has been the director of France Balantič Library in Kamnik for 28 years and has participated in various professional organizations and meetings. She is the author of several articles, co-author of important articles on strategies and standards of general libraries and winner of the Čopova award. She is also interested in folk science and is the co-author and editor of several fairy tale books. Besides, she is the organizer of the Križnik Fairy Tales Festival, one of the most recognisable Slovenian cultural heritage festivals.

  • Bronja Žakelj

    Bronja Žakelj (1969) has a graduate degree in journalism, but her love of writing disappeared somewhere between the lines of magazine ar- ticles and editorial offices of daily newspapers. She found her first job in marketing and today works in banking. Since there is not much space for creativity in the world of finance, and her love of writing had never been entirely forgotten, she decided it was time to write her first book. 

    Whites Wash at Ninety was published in Septem- ber 2018 to much acclaim and has been reprinted countless times already since then.

  • Carlos González-Villa

    Carlos González-Villa (1986) is a Spanish-Venezuelan researcher of nationalisms in the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia, US foreign policy, geopolitics and the analysis of the world system. He is a Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo.

  • Cvetka Sokolov

    Cvetka Sokolov (1963) is a university teacher of English. Writing for children and adults is

    her pastime. Her first text for a picture book, The Red House (2004), was published in 2004

    and was shortlisted for the Original Picture Book Award, as was Oh, Those Doctors,

    published in 2007. In 2013, her novel for young adults, What Doesn't Kill You, was published and shortlisted for the Blue Bird Award. She also writes poetry and riddles for children. The

    recurring themes of her works for children are small joys that arise from everyday events, genuine human contact, and opening one's eyes to the wonders of nature, while her novels

    for young adults usually deal with darker themes of physical, mental, and sexual abuse. Her novel for children Is Everything Really Going to Be All Right? (2019) was shortlisted for

    Desetnica, the Slovene Writers’ Association Prize, and included in International Youth Library's The White Ravens 2020, an annual selection of outstanding books for children and

    young adults.


  • Damijan Stepančič

    The illustrator Damijan Stepančič (1969), who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, has received significant domestic and foreign awards for his work.

  • Danilo Pahor

    Photographer Danilo Pahor (Trieste, 1972) studied multimedia sciences at the University of Udine. He has been dedicated to photography for many years. He regularly attends photography workshops and courses in Slovenia and in Italy. He had one solo exhibition and participated in several group exhibitions.

  • Darja Zaviršek

    Darja Zaviršek (1962) is a Professor at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Ljubljana and at the University of Applied Science Alice Salomon Berlin. She is the president of the East European subregional Association of the Schools of Social Work of the IASSW. Here research and publications are in the areas of disability and gender studies, critical ethnicity studies, history of social work education under communism.

  • Daša Simčič

    Daša Simčič is a painter who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana in 1992 under the guidance of Professor Janez Bernik, and after her studies she worked on drawing and designing puppets in Silvo Omerzu's group. She mainly works on illustration in children's books and magazines. For her illustrations, a visual poetic narrative alongside the text, she usually uses watercolours, simple drawing, and reduction in expression, which emphasises the lightness.
