New Graphic Novels from Slovenia

Summary: The illustrators Zoran Smiljanić, Jakob Klemenčič and Jurij Devetak in conversation with the translator Erwin Köstler.

Description: In Slovenia, many classic literary works, for example by Ivan Cankar or Boris Pahor, and biographies of interesting personalities (Jože Plečnik, Alma M. Karlin, Maximilian I of Mexico etc.) have recently been adapted into graphic novels. Many of them have been published by Bahoe Verlag in Vienna in the German translation by Erwin Köstler, who will talk about the particularities of translating spatially restricted texts. Cartoonists Zoran Smiljanić, Jakob Klemenčič and Jurij Devetak will discuss the challenges of translating actual characters, historical themes, and classic works. The conversation will be simultaneously interpreted into German.
