Zoran und Ivan Smiljanić: Die schwarze Flamme: Der Beginn der faschistischen Gewalt in Triest 1920 – (Comic)

The end of the First World War, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the birth of Italian fascism are the main historical currents against which Ivan and Zoran Smiljanić document the emergence of racism and ethnic tensions in Trieste through the friendship of two boys. Tensions that finally culminate in the riots of 13 June 1920, when the Slovene National Home in the centre of the city is surrounded by fascist rioters and set on fire in front of everyone.

A stylistically succinct depiction of one of the central events in the history of the city of Trieste, which reached its reconciliatory epilogue exactly 100 years later, when the Italian President returned the National Home to the Slovene national community in Italy.
