The recipient of the 2025 Lavrin Diploma is Anita Peti-Stantić

The Slovenian Association of Literary Translators has been awarding the Lavrin Diploma for a high-quality body of translations of Slovenian literature, humanities, and social sciences into foreign languages, as well as for a significant contribution to the international recognition of Slovenian literature since 2003.

This year’s recipient is the Croatian translator and cultural ambassador of Slovenian literature in Croatia, Anita Peti-Stantić. The award citation states:

“Anita Peti-Stantić has translated over 70 books from Slovenian into Croatian. While her translation work primarily focuses on fiction for adults, it also includes a notable selection of children’s and young adult literature, as well as works in the humanities and sciences. (…) She is not only a translator but also a translation scholar, a promoter of Slovenian literature, and a dedicated mentor to young translators. (…) As a researcher in the field of reading culture and an active promoter of reading among young people, she often recommends Slovenian books to Croatian publishers—books that, in her critically informed opinion and with her refined sense for language and literary quality, deserve to be translated into Croatian. Thanks to her initiative, major Croatian publishers—particularly Fraktura, Naklada Ljevak, Sandorf, and Srednja Europa—have begun regularly publishing translations of prominent Slovenian authors.”
