It might be a coincidence that we are sending you our first newsletter this year on March 8, International Women’s Day, but it is true that we would like to share some exciting news about new translations of Slovenian authors and their appearances at international book fairs this spring – of which majority are female authors. Apart from that we are announcing two public tenders for foreign publishers, a get-together of Slovenian and German publishers in Munich on May 23, our this year’s fellowship for foreign publishers, journalists and editors, which will take place in late August, and much, much more. Spring Book Fairs: Meet us in Paris, Leipzig and Bologna
This year we will participate at the Paris Book Fair (15-18 March) – for the first time with a national stand at the European Pavilion, stand K114. After Paris we are heading to Leipzig Book Fair (21-24 March), where you can find us in hall 4, stand D503. And last, but not least: Bologna Children’s Book Fair (1-4 April) in hall 29, stand C34-D33. Check out more than 20 events with Slovenian authors and illustrators, their new translations into foreign languages and some interesting brand-new titles in Slovenian!

Support for foreign publishers - Slovenian Book Agency is scheduled to issue two public tenders
Two public tenders, Translations into foreign languages and Publications of Slovenian literature in German language, are scheduled to be published on 5th April 2019 on Book Agency's website. The deadline for applications will be 15 May.
The overall budget of the tenders is 160.000 €, grants request up to 10.000 € are eligible.

Save the date - Slovenian and German-speaking publishers’ afternoon on 23 May in Literaturhaus München
In the light of Slovenia's Guest of Honour role at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2022 the Slovenian Book Agency together with Literaturhaus München is organizing a bilateral working meeting of Slovenian publishers and editors with their colleagues from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Save the date: Thursday, 23 May 2019, from 14.00 to 18.00 / Literaturhaus München / Germany.

Open applications for this year’s fellowship in Slovenia - foreign publishers, editors, journalists invited for a late-August get together
In the perspective of our Guest of Honour appearances at the Bologna Children's Book Fair in 2021 and at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2022, the Slovenian Book Agency organizes yearly study-journeys for foreign publishers since 2015 in order to enhance the translational potential of Slovenian literature.
This year’s fellowship will take place between 21-24/25 August and will host up to 10 international publishers and editors of fiction and non-fiction as well as journalists covering cultural topics and literary event managers/festival organizers.

Open call for applications for the CEI fellowship for writers in residence
The Central European Initiative in co-operation with the Slovene Writers’ Association issued a Call for Applications for the CEI fellowship for writers in residence for the year 2019 within the Vilenica International Literary Festival. The deadline for applications is 30th April 2019. The fellowship is endowed with a cash award of EUR 5,000 for a three-month stay in any of the Central European Initiative Member States, selected by the candidate.

2nd Children’s Book Salon welcomed also one of the Slovenian publishing houses
Between 12-14 February Frankfurt Book Fair New York (a business office of Frankfurter Buchmesse) and Publishing Perspectives (online trade magazine) organized their second invitational Children’s Books Salon in New York City. During this three-day event the participants got to know the US children’s book market and met almost 70 American professionals from the publishing industry.

New Translations of Slovenian Literature
The titles, which we announced in our last 2018 Newsletter have all been published and some new are out and about as well.
The first one to mention is a German translation of the poetry collection by Aleš Šteger Über dem Himmel, unter der Erde (translated by Matthias Göritz, published by Hanser).
Followed by Andrej Blatnik’s Serbian translation of the novel Promeni me (translated by Ana Ristović, published by Geopoetika).
Manica K. Musil’s children’s books Stan the Elephant and Robbie the Lion were published in Russian by A walk through history publishing house together in one book.
German translation of Matej Fišer’s Prekmurjer Kochbuch. Von Schürze bis Schlips (translated by Lea Burjan, published by Tandem Mktg) is more of an art piece than a cookbook.
