Three new open calls for 2023
Slovenian Book Agency announces that three public calls are going to open on Friday 3 March 2023:

Call for the selection of cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages for 2023 (JR1–P–2023)

Call for proposals for funding of cultural projects to co-finance the printing costs of translations of original Slovene works in foreign languages for the year 2023 (JR2–TRUBAR–2023)

Call for Proposals for the translation and publication of books by Slovenian authors in the German language for the year 2023 (JR4–INJ–2023)
The calls will be opened until 17 April 2023.
1. The public call for the selection of cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages for 2023 (JR1–P–2023)
The subject of the public call JR1-P-2023 is selection of contractors and subsidizing their cultural projects in the field of translation into foreign languages in 2023
The Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) will support the proposed projects of publications in accordance with the following long-term priorities and objectives:

support of the first translation of works, originally written in Slovene language, into foreign languages;
-
long-term support for the translation and promotion of Slovene literature abroad, also in the perspective of the cultural projects Slovenia – Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair, and/or Slovenia –Guest of Honour at Bologna Children's Book Fair;
-
support to promotion of Slovene authors and their works abroad;
-
support for translators from Slovene into foreign languages.
The goal and purpose of the public call is support for the first translation of works, originally written in Slovene language into foreign languages. JAK will also co-finance translation of works, written in other languages, when author is a part of Slovenian cultural environment, into foreign languages.
Eligible texts include adult fiction, children’s and young adult fiction, essayistic and critical works from the field of culture and humanities that are to be published in a book form abroad or performed by a theatre company abroad. This call is going to subsidize translations, which are going to be published no later than 31 August 2024. Eligible applicants are legal persons (publishers, theatres), registered abroad who intend to ensure the publication or performance of the first translation of works, originally written in Slovenian language, or work, written in other languages, when author is a part of Slovenian cultural environment.
Within the framework of this call, the same applicant may submit no more than two (2) applications.

2. Call for proposals for funding of cultural projects to co-finance the printing costs of translations of original Slovene works in foreign languages for the year 2023 (JR2–TRUBAR–2023)
The subject of the public call JR2–TRUBAR–2023 is the selection of contractors and the co-financing the printing costs of translations of original Slovene works in foreign languages in year 2023. JAK will also co-finance translation of works, written in other languages, when author is a part of Slovenian cultural environment.
In the framework of this call JAK will co-finance the printing costs of first editions in foreign languages of authors whose original work is created in Slovene or works, written in other languages, when author is a part of Slovenian cultural environment, in the fields of literarture and human science for adults, young adults and children (including silent books, graphic novels and comics) as well as essays and reviews from the field of culture and art (specifically excluding support for publication of text books, scientific monographs, exhibition catalogues, cookbooks and self-help manuals).
Eligible applicants are legal entities (publishers) registered abroad, who intend to ensure the publication of the first translation of a literary work, originally written in Slovene language, or work, written in other languages, when author is a part of Slovenian cultural environment.
An individual applicant may submit a maximum of three (3) individual book projects within the framework of this call.

3. Call for Proposals for the translation and publication of books by Slovenian authors in the German language for the year 2023 (JR4–INJ–2023)
The objective of the Call is the selection of applicants for the co-financing of cultural projects in two areas:

support for first publications of original Slovenian works in German language;
-
support for reprints of original Slovenian works in German language.
The Slovenian Book Agency (JAK) will support the proposed projects of publications in accordance with the following long-term priorities and objectives:

support for the first publications of original Slovenian works in the German language;
-
support for reprints of original Slovenian works in German language;
-
support for translators from Slovenian into German;
-
support the promotion and enforcement of Slovenian authors and their works abroad, also in the view of the project “Slovenia, Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023”;
-
encourage the translation and promotion of Slovenian literature in the long term.
The call refers to two areas:
1. the field of the first publications of original Slovenian works in German language (short: first publications); An individual applicant can apply with a maximum of one (1) book publication per call.
2. reprints of original Slovenian works in German language (short: reprints); An individual applicant can apply with a maximum of two (2) book publications per call.
