The Ljubljana Manifesto, Critical Thinking and the European Political Crisis

Participants: Luis González (Spain), Kristenn Einarson (Norway), Miha Kovač (Slovenia)

Moderated by Alenka Kepic Mohar (Slovenia)

The Ljubljana Reading Manifesto highlighted the connections between higher-level reading and critical thinking. But what exactly is critical thinking, and how is it linked to reading? What does it mean to think critically in a cultural, social, and political context in which populism is getting momentum? In what cases does critical thinking become a guise for expressing prejudice, arrogance, and bias? What role do the printed and digital media play in all of this? And how does all this relate to the growth of populist movements in Europe and wider?
